With the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays so close this year, it seemed only fitting to combine our November and December activities blogs.
Gratitude- The Greatest Virtue
This Thanksgiving and Christmas we had plenty to be thankful for. Besides the typical responses of good health, friends, family, and freedom, here at RCI, we have been truly blessed for the opportunity to offer and provide supports and services to our program participants. Enhancing the lives of adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities embodies our mission. We areso grateful for the opportunities to help others and thankful for the impact they have on our hearts.

Not only are we thankful for those we support, but we are also thankful for our awesome workforce of Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) who encourage participant socialization, independence, and decision-making by creating fun experiences, both on-site at our programsand off-site within our local community.
November Fun
In November, our DSPs assisted our participants in all kinds of leisure-based arts and crafts such as: Mosaic Turkeys, Thankful Pumpkin Pies, Solo Cup Turkey Bowling, and Turkey Races. We also had a great time visiting the nostalgic, “Our Comic Shoppe,” in Milford. This outing afforded something new and memorable for everyone who got the chance to rummage through old comics only to be humbled by simpler times.
December Moments
Likewise in December, our DSPs made the Christmas holiday special with a plethora of cool Christmas themed crafts including: Polar Express Ornaments, Popsicle Stick Nutcrackers,Gumdrop Chimneys, and Jenga Snowmen. Groups also participated in several science experiments, such as Crystal Snowman and Christmas Lava Lamps. Some participants took part in the Christmas Olympics, with events such as Blindfolded Bow Scooping and Hungry Hungry Reindeers! Perhaps our favorite day was our Christmas Celebration where we decorated cookies, karaoke’d Christmas tunes, played Christmas Bingo, and had a special guest appearance from Santa and his elf!
