Farewell To Summer:
For many of us, the month of August symbolizes the end of summer. Vacation season ends, and the anticipation of cooler weather, pumpkin spice, and fall colors is ever present! And while all that may be true, here at RCI’s adult day program, we fully embraced summer’s close by basking in beach-worthy activities, throwing a karaoke party, and digging up fossils!
Beach and Coastal Crafts

“Jellyfish Salt Paintings,” “Beach Memory Jars,” and “Seashell Necklaces” were some of our favorite seaside crafts at the adult day program. These projects not only allowed participants to get creative but also encouraged hands-on learning. Another popular craft was making “Salt Dough Starfish,” which introduced a fun and educational element.
Salt dough is a versatile crafting material that we use often because it’s made from simple, everyday ingredients like flour, salt, and water. It’s safe, non-toxic, and easy to work with, making it perfect for all ages and abilities. Working with salt dough also offers sensory play opportunities, helping participants develop fine motor skills while creating sculptures and imprints. These crafts promote self-expression and encourage creativity, providing an enjoyable and educational experience for everyone involved!
Karaoke Queens and Kings

Who doesn’t love karaoke? There’s just something about singing our hearts out to our favorite songs and having our voices amplified! It gets us out of our comfort zone while having fun with our friends. Plus, it gives everyone the chance to be a star and truly unwind! We sang along tothe Backstreet Boys hit song, “I Want It That Way,” the Village People’s iconic song “Y.M.C.A,” John Denver’s nostalgic song, “Country Roads,” and many other popular songs!
Karaoke can be a fun and interactive way to enhance music education. By singing along to popular songs, our participants can improve their vocal skills, rhythm, and pitch while gaining confidence in their performance abilities. Karaoke also introduces them to different genres of music, helping them to understand song structure and develop a deeper appreciation for musical expression. Plus, it encourages creativity and teamwork when performed in a group setting!
Fossil Dig
We also visited William H. Harsha Lake and East Fork State Park for a fossil dig. The group unearthed some cool fossils, like Trilobite, that they were able to take home! They had a blast searching for fossils and learned a little something too!
As we move into fall, we reflect on the memories made and the fun we had this summer at Residential Concepts. From creative crafts to fossil hunts, we embraced the spirit of adventure and community. We’re excited to see what the next season brings, and we look forward to creating more meaningful experiences for our residents.
